Lee is the long-term drummer for Motley Crue, and is also the creator of Methods of Mayhem, a rapper-oriented metal group. He has also pursued solo musical endeavors. Lee is a PETA advocate and an ardent advocate for the rights of animals. Lee has written Terry Prather in protest of Tilikum's treatment back in 2010. Lee believed that the animal should be released, and he stated that SeaWorld would not comply since Tilikum is their primary source of sperm. Lee expressed his disgust at SeaWorld's incompetence and strange methods of obtaining Tilikum fertile. Lee said he wanted to prevent any further tragedies involving trainers being killed, as the causes of these deaths were the whales' aversion to being held in captivity.
