The early achievements of Maureen FitzSimons in the performing arts, that is now known to be Maureen O'Hara, would certainly have qualified her to be in the "child prodigy" category. But for a young Irish girl who was surrounded by gifted parents and extended families, these traits came as a naturally. Maureen was born in Ranelagh - a suburb of Dublin the capital of Ireland on 17 August 1920. Marguerita FitzSimons was an accomplished contralto. Charles FitzSimons ran a Dublin business, and owned shares in the Irish Shamrock Rovers, a soccer team. Maureen FitzSimons was the daughter of Charles FitzSimons. Peggy, Florrie Charles B. Fitzsimons Margot Fitzsimons complete this wonderful family. Maureen did well as a sporty woman and participated in rough, competitive games when she was young. The passion for sports was matched by a natural talent for performance. Her winning of almost every Feis awards for her native country's theater and drama is a testimony to this. At age fourteen, she was accepted into the Abbey Theater, where her ambition was to study operatic singing and classical theater.
